Frequently Asked Questions

What Is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® is a prescription nasal spray that works differently from traditional antidepressants. Patients administer the medication themselves under the supervision of a healthcare provider and remain at the office for observation after each treatment.

SPRAVATO® may be considered for adults whose depression has not adequately improved after trying other antidepressant treatments. Your provider will review your symptoms, health history, medications, and previous treatments to determine whether you may qualify.

Who may qualify for SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® may be an option for adults diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression. A consultation and medical evaluation are required to determine whether the treatment is appropriate and safe for you.

Is SPRAVATO® the same as ketamine?

No. SPRAVATO® contains esketamine, which is related to ketamine but is not the same treatment. SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved nasal spray for treatment-resistant depression, while ketamine is not FDA-approved for treating depression.

What happens during a treatment appointment?

You will administer SPRAVATO® as a nasal spray under the supervision of our clinical team. We will check your blood pressure and monitor you for possible side effects during and after treatment.

How long does an appointment take?

Patients must be monitored for at least two hours after receiving SPRAVATO®. Additional time may be needed for check-in, preparation, health assessments, and discharge instructions.

Can I take SPRAVATO® at home?

No. SPRAVATO® must be administered in a certified healthcare setting under the supervision of a healthcare provider. It cannot be taken home.

Can I drive after treatment?

No. You must arrange for someone to drive you home after every appointment. You should not drive, operate machinery, or perform hazardous activities until the following day after a restful night’s sleep.

What are the possible side effects?

Possible side effects may include sleepiness, dizziness, nausea, increased blood pressure, feeling disconnected from yourself or your surroundings, anxiety, headache, vertigo, and changes in taste. Your clinical team will monitor you during every treatment session.

Does insurance cover SPRAVATO®?

Insurance coverage varies depending on your health plan and medical history. Prior authorization may be required. Our team can help verify your benefits and explain the next steps before treatment begins.

How soon will I feel better?

Every patient responds differently. Some patients may notice improvements sooner than others, but results cannot be guaranteed. Your provider will regularly evaluate your symptoms and response to treatment.
