Post Partum Depression

Postpartum depression (PPD) is a serious mood disorder that can affect new parents after giving birth. It can cause a range of symptoms, including:

  • Persistent sadness
  • Low energy
  • Anxiety
  • Crying episodes
  • Irritability
  • Changes in sleeping or eating patterns
  • Difficulty bonding with the baby
  • Withdrawing from friends and family
  • Thoughts of harming the baby or yourself

PPD is different from the "baby blues", which are feelings of worry, sadness, and tiredness that usually go away on their own within a few days. PPD symptoms are more severe and last longer than the baby blues.

PPD can be caused by a combination of factors, including hormonal changes, genetic predisposition, and environmental factors. Up to 50% of cases go undiagnosed due to the stigma surrounding the condition
