Schizoaffective disorder

Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental illness that involves symptoms of both schizophrenia and a mood disorder:

  • Schizophrenia symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and changes in thinking, perceptions, and sense of self
  • Mood disorder symptoms include depression or mania, which can involve extreme shifts in mood, energy, and behavior 

Other symptoms include:

  • Disorientation
  • Confusion or fear
  • Feeling disconnected from emotions
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Lack of motivation or interest
  • Bizarre or unusual behavior
  • Difficulty functioning at work, school, or in social situations
