Frequently Asked Questions
What is an ADHD assessment?
An ADHD assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that looks at whether Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) may be contributing to difficulties with attention, focus, organization, impulsivity, or emotional regulation.
ADHD can present differently from person to person. For some, it may look like difficulty concentrating or staying organized. For others, it may show up as procrastination, trouble managing responsibilities, feeling mentally overwhelmed, or struggling to follow through on tasks.
A thorough evaluation looks beyond a checklist of symptoms. It considers your history, your daily functioning, and the full picture of your experiences.
How do I know if I may have ADHD?
You may benefit from an ADHD assessment if you often struggle with staying focused, completing tasks, managing time, staying organized, remembering responsibilities, or feeling mentally restless.
ADHD can affect school, work, relationships, and daily routines. An assessment can help provide clarity and guide you toward the right next steps.
What can I expect during my ADHD assessment?
During your ADHD assessment, your provider will ask about your symptoms, medical and mental health history, school or work experiences, and how these concerns affect your daily life.
You may also discuss your attention, focus, organization, time management, impulsivity, emotional regulation, and any challenges you have noticed at home, school, or work.
Will I receive a diagnosis after the assessment?
After the assessment, your provider will review the information gathered and discuss the findings with you.
If ADHD is identified, your provider will explain the diagnosis clearly and answer your questions. If ADHD is not the main concern, your provider may discuss other possible factors that could be affecting your focus, mood, or daily functioning.
What happens after an ADHD diagnosis?
After an ADHD diagnosis, your provider will work with you to create a personalized plan based on your symptoms, goals, and needs.
Next steps may include medication options, therapy, lifestyle strategies, skill-building, school or work accommodations, or follow-up care. The goal is to help you better understand your symptoms and feel supported moving forward.
How is ADHD managed or treated?
ADHD management may include a combination of education, medication, therapy, behavioral strategies, routine-building, and lifestyle support.
Treatment is personalized because everyone experiences ADHD differently. Your provider will help you explore options that support your focus, organization, emotional balance, and overall daily functioning
